Jonathan was one of five soldiers from The 2nd Battalion The Rifles to be killed by two separate bomb blasts. Jonathan leaves behind his beloved wife Rachel, his children Frankie and Jessica, his parents and three brothers.

Jonathan's wife Rachel said A sad farewell to my wonderful husband who was a devoted father, husband and a loving son. We will miss you more than words could ever describe. You were the most caring, thoughtful, funniest, loving and generous person I have ever known. You were so brave and we are all so proud of what you have done. We will always love and miss you. You will forever be in our thoughts.

He will be missed greatly by his family and friends.

How will heaven be?
As far as I can see
It will have huge bells
And will be situated on clouds
It will have many golden wells
That will so often swell
Rain will be abundant
And the sun will shine all day long
Angels will play on the harp
The sweetest summer song
Music that will touch the heart
While those beneath will shed drops of sorrow
Little will they know what will happen on the morrow
But to them up above
As plain and clear it will be
As far as far as I can see
Yes there will be misty alleys
And lush green meadows
Fresh with the fragrant smell of spring
Winter will never be bitter
Summer never so hot
Autumn never so bare
And resources never so scarce
Food for all will be relished by all.
Grateful we’ll be as grateful can be
Mountains high and strong and brown
Surrounding that hidden land,
Beautiful and vast seas I see
There colour as blue as sapphire can be
And the white waves lashing upon the shore
Sitting on the flattened grey rocks
Who would not call it absolutely heavenly?
However it might actually be,
But can we still not see
There will lie behind this seen
A relieving feeling of bliss
For where not have we been
But is this not by all believed
That after one’s decease
This is the land of eternal peace
Where we all ultimately reach?

The Unknown Future

Life is a book in volumes three--
The past, the present, and the yet-to-be.
The past is written and laid away,
The present we're writing every day,
And the last and best of volumes three
Is locked from sight -- God keeps the key.

~~~~~~~ I AM NOT GONE ~~~~~~~~
I am not gone, I am changed.
Have faith and please believe me.
God did not take me away from you,
He split the skies and received me.
Now...
I'm an echo in your laughter,
a reflection in your tears,
an extra thread of strength
to help you overcome your fears.
I'm an added ray of sunshine,
more joy for you to share,
a fragrance of the life you live.
Wherever you are - I am there.
A WALSALL LAD
The soldier stood and faced God,
Which must alway come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, you soldier,
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To my Church have you been true?"
The soldier squared his soldiers and said,
"No, Lord, I guess I ain't.
Because those of us who carry guns,
Can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
And at times my talk was tough.
And sometimes I've been violent,
Because the world is awfully rough.
But, I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep...
Though I worked a lot of overtime,
When the bills just got too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God, forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place,
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around,
Except to calm their fears.
If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't, I'll understand."
There was a silence all around the throne,
Where the saints had often trod.
As the soldier waited quietly,
For the judgement of his God.
"Step forward now, you soldier,
You've borne your burdens well.
Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in Hell."
God's Colors
Who paints those lovely colors
That we see up in the sky?
Who caps those awesome mountains
With sparkling snow up high?
Who puts a sheen of green
Upon each tall and stately tree?
Who makes the streams crystal blue
Softly flowing magic for you and me to see?
Who makes the sun so warm and bright
Then fills it with great power
To make the earth spring forth with color
With just a little shower?
Who gives each bird the song they sing
As they fly away so far
Who puts those tiny twinkles
In each brightly shining star?
Who in Heaven keeps watch upon
Each one of us each day?
And blesses us with all this glory
As we travel on our way?
Our Midlands Hero
I didn't know Jay personally but even though i never knew him i was saddened to hear of his death. He sounded like such a brave courageous man, who loved his family dearly. He died a hero putting himself before others & i am sure he will live on in his beautiful daughters. I cannot imagine what his family are going through right now especially his wife. I am sure he will be looking down on you all. RIP our brave Walsall hero. You will never be forgotten xx
